For ORTSRAUM, a holistic perspective means integrating architecture, landscape and identity from the very beginning — creating places that invite, function and endure. Time is our constant: we design with operation and change in mind, ensuring that quality remains tangible for the long term.
For ORTSRAUM, resource efficiency means using materials sparingly, minimising land take through efficient use of space, and ensuring the circularity of components and materials. We also consider the embodied energy held within existing buildings — preserving and reusing it wherever it adds value. The result: lower emissions, resilient solutions and lasting efficiency.
Wherever possible, we use renewable or locally recycled materials instead of energy-intensive or long-transported products. ORTSRAUM offsets unavoidable CO₂ emissions through tree planting — because achieving zero emissions is our goal.
A responsible approach to finite energy resources is central to how we supply our buildings with energy. Through intelligent concepts and the use of renewable sources, we reduce the need for conventional energy significantly — for electricity, heating and cooling.
We integrate climate resilience from the very beginning: architectural shading, thermal mass, and climate-active planting and retention areas. This reduces summer heat loads, keeps outdoor spaces usable, lowers flood risks and improves the microclimate.
ORTSRAUM strengthens living ecosystems through nature-based open spaces, roof and façade greening, native planting and connected habitats. This supports biodiversity and creates lasting habitats — improving the microclimate and the quality of outdoor spaces for residents and users alike.
Our projects foster community and participation: through places for interaction, barrier-free access, intergenerational living concepts and equivalent standards of fit-out in both privately financed and subsidised housing. Our ambition is to create buildings that are not only constructed, but socially anchored.
ORTSRAUM projects support lifestyles that rely less on private cars: mobility concepts with car sharing, EV-charging infrastructure, and secure, well-located and thoughtfully integrated bicycle parking all enable flexible, practical and sustainable movement.
